If MOOCs are truly to reach their potential, they need strong data collection and analysis that leads to better design in future iterations of the course. Merely recording lectures once, putting them online, and forgetting about them does not a good MOOC make. Perhaps the most significant opportunity that MOOCs provide is the opportunity for iteration and improvement. This is expensive, of course, and time consuming, but it is nevertheless a key aspect of our framework because it would be easy to leave out of the design and evaluation process.
