If Thomas George now makes any attempt to excuse his lack of support for the Northern Rivers community over its fight against the invasive gas industry, it should be seen for what it is - a cowardly and dishonest denial of his failure. This man has failed in his democratic obligation to the people he is supposed to represent. His duty to the electorate is not contingent upon his personal opinion, but upon the larger responsibility he has to reflect the will of the people. Thats why we elect someone - to represent us and not themselves or their party. This is the problem with our current political culture, that theyve allowed themselves to be corrupted and to act upon deals struck behind closed doors. Personal gain and family connections should NOT be the object of public office!
