If What Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has done is Not Development, - TopicsExpress

If What Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has done is Not Development, then We, Kenyans Don’t Know What We Want in Our Lives Like any other Kenyan, I wholeheartedly countenance the fact that governors should ultimately take responsibility for the misappropriations of government funds entrusted to them. Just the other day, government Auditor-General Edward Ouko released a heartrending report on how governors have embezzled the people’s money. Unsurprisingly, the report was met with widespread indifferences among Kenyans from all walks of life. However, what stunned me the most is the way Kenyans – especially bloggers – who initially extolled Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua, turned against him after Ouko indicated that some monies in Machakos County are uncounted for. Mutua’s fabricated controversy has been clouded in inconsequential euphemism. The fact that Kenya is a country mired down in scandals and corruption does not mean everyone is blemished. Unfunnily, out of all the 47 governors, the focus was only on Dr. Mutua, the man who has done the wonders that no one else has. The former government spokesman has been outrageously baptized with thousands of weird nomenclatures in this world. For those of us who are well lettered in matters of history, the Nazi and Auschwitz, they had uncanny practices of tattooing numbers on the arms of convicts. Members of the penitentiaries had their skins pinned through with an identity number, especially on their chests. If asked to propound a proposal, I can recommend for the same to be done to the lords of corruption for quick identification so as to avoid mistaken identities like in the case of Governor Mutua because he serves well as a consequential case study. My fellow Kenyans, before you starkly dramatize Governor Mutua’s scintillating developmental scorecard, it is imperative to consider some factors. Before you scold Dr. Mutua, can you compare him with your governor and find out who is better off? When I compare and contrast Dr. Mutua and Gov. James Ongwae who by default and adventurously happens to be my governor, it is like comparing Mother Teresa of Calcutta to Ahab’s wife Jezebel who grabbed Naboth’s ancestral land with impunity. Compared to Machakos, Kisii County was allocated almost double amount of money by treasury. With evidence, I can confirm that the differences between “KISII DISTRICT” and “KISII COUNTY” are: Under Kisii Municipal council, Kisii district was headed by a mayor whereas Kisii County is headed by a governor; the employees of Kisii Municipal Council were half of the employees of Kisii County. Apart from that, nothing else has changed. Governor Alfred Mutua has bought 120 police vehicles for security in Machakos; he has procured nearly 80 Ambulances plus a few motorbike ambulances for eased penetration in case of hectic traffic jams, all for quality and affordable health care for all. This man has gone a step further to build an open air arena, one of its kinds and the first one in east and Central Africa, among many other projects. Imagine for the 90 ambulances and motorbikes, 180 drivers have secured job opportunities. How I wish that could be happening in Kisii County. Like him or hate him, this boy is dutiful and he deserves a high 5. If you hate him, you deserve a high 5 on your face. Who is better off, someone who spends one billion in development and keeps 20 million to himself or the one who spends 20 million in development keeping Ksh.980m to himself? A big question is, “What do Kenyans want in life” honestly!! To Mr. Ouko, dare I ask, shall we say thank you or F**K you, shall I clap for you or slap you? (Tukupigie Makofi ama Tukupige Makofi) and to the industrious Alfred Mutua, Thomas Jefferson once said, In matters of style, swim with the current, in matters of principle, stand like a rock. Keep it up governor. Albert Nyakundi Amenya –Banana Pedlar, Kisii County
