If a game encourages a wide variety of play styles (Borderlands, League of Legends, Marvel Puzzle Quest), then the game dies for me the exact moment that the right way to play becomes common knowledge and permeates its community. When a game like League has over a hundred characters and only 20 or so that you can consider playing if want to actually COMPETE in a competitive game, then it is, to me, more math than fun. Which is why Ive played Borderlands Gaige as her Elemental and Anarchy trees. As soon as the development team did an interview stating that her Green best friends forever tree was the easiest way to win, I was out. This post is coming from the fact that I am playing Age of Mythology and that, sooner or later, I will find out which gods are good and which are bad and what WINNERS do. And thatll probably be the day I move on.
