If all future events were exhaustively and eternally foreknown as certain, God would be unable to determine or change any of them because they were already eternally settled in His mind and nothing could happen contrary to His eternal foreknowledge or else His eternal foreknowledge would be wrong. In this case, given eternal and exhaustive foreknowledge of all future events as certainties, the future would be fixed and settled and unchangeable. But does the Bible teach that the future is eternally fixed and settled and unchangeable? Far from it. The God of the Bible is not limited by eternal and exhaustive foreknowledge of all future events as certainties. Rather, He exists in an open system of possibilities which He is free to decide between. Here are some examples of how God can lengthen or shorten the days of a persons life, thus God can change and alter the future in time whenever He sees fit to do so. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. 1 Kings 3:14 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. Isaiah 38:5 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. Prov. 10:27 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elects sake those days shall be shortened. Matt. 24:22 For anyone to say that God cannot change the future (because of a preconceived idea of eternal and exhaustive foreknowledge of all future events as certainties) is to put an unbiblical limitation upon God, through which God would be unable to truly be the Sovereign God of the Universe.
