If anyone ever asks you to install a shower stall and mentions how easy it is, run far away! There was an old green fiberglass tub from the 80s which had to be cut out, then the sheetrock removed. Since this old house was built in the 1980s, it had settled and the floor wasnt level. (Maybe never was) That required removing the floor and sandwiching the joints with 2 x 4s to get it level. The stall was slightly wider than the old tub, so had to cut off about an inch of the tile floor. Did I mention dust? Then the old drain was 1 1/2 inch....needed two inch....and the previous location at the head out the tub had to be moved to the center of the stall. Couldnt use the old drain to the sewer stack at all. Fortunately, there was an extra clean out under there, so plumbed to that. You gotta love laying on your back in the crawl space amongst the fiberglass insulation running PVC pipe, crawling back out every time a cut was required. Also added shut off valves on the hot and cold water to the shower. It came out well and I learned a lot. There was no vent stack, but after some research, discovered that you can use a spring loaded vent right after the trap that will let air in but keep sewer gasses out. Cool! Now to get the sheetrock back up.
