If anyone questions why voting is important ... spend just half a minute on a right-wing page. Honestly, do. I did that earlier. A few liberal pages shared a particularly vile meme so I ... got curious. Clicked on the page of origin. Like the feeling that would compel a person to pull the sheet off a cadaver--its sure to be gruesome, the stuff of nightmares, but ... just one quick peek. (Edgar Allan Poe would call that urge the imp of the perverse. Sarah Palin fans would say: Whos Edgar Allan Poe? But I digress.) The page was just hysteria over the fears du jour so to speak -- Ebola and Isis. Obama being responsible for both, of course. Yawn. Heres the thing: So many folks almost forgive these people with theyre just afraid. Its just fear. No. I dont accept that. Fear is not an excuse. Im fearful too. Im terrified. Me and everyone I know from the former working and middle classes -- working 80-hour weeks until the day we die and not one day sooner. The poor having to move further and further inland, where we will suffer the first real (American) wave of climate change. My sons chances to make a decent life for himself.......... Im afraid too. But Ive educated myself enough to know what the threats really are. Fear is not an excuse. And if you dont vote, you give these open-carry, racist-Obama-meme-sharing, border-patrol imbeciles more of a voice in American politics than you allow yourself. You empower them. You let them decide the legislation that will affect your life on a daily basis. Vote if for no other reason than to negate these peoples votes. -- Cindi
