To accomplish this, a team of engineers at Boston University are developing a Bionic Pancreas to automatically make decisions about insulin and glucagon dosing every five minutes. That’s 288 decisions per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. In order to secure NIH funding for their final pivotal studies in 2016, they need to complete the production of the final premarket device. This is the actual Bionic Pancreas that will be submitted to the FDA in 2017.
