If folk want to see how core/periphery subtext works in professional philosophy, see this. Taken from a very interesting (!) conference announcement: Aestheticians could benefit from exchanges with philosophers working on realism and antirealism in other domains, while philosophers in these other domains could benefit from a more detailed understanding of the data in aesthetics. Evidently, meta-ethics types do not need to expect to learn something significant about their own craft by talking to (meta-)aestheticians...
