If life was predictable it would be so boring. Yet, not all the waves are pleasant ones, rough seas can bring you down, leave you battered. I posted something earlier about the death of Robin Williams and then deleted it shortly thereafter. I thought, you know, thats not the kind of positive thing I spotlight. Somehow, as Ive joked about recently, Ive gotten a reputation for always being positive & upbeat. That, of course, is impossible. No one can always be upbeat and positive, no matter how much he may try. Those who know me best could tell you stories . . . . if only I would let them. :-) Social media, facebook in particular, sometimes gets dinged for, accused of creating depression in some. As the theory goes, people see other people talking about their wonderful lives, going to do this, to do that, and they then feel left out, like their own lives are not as interesting, as exciting as what they read about online. Id say those people havent seen some of the dramas Ive seen play out . . . . a Mexican novella has nothin on what sometimes goes down on facebook! Yet, Im sure it can happen. Im certain there is no one I know who doesnt have bad days, difficulty dealing with the various events we all deal with, seek to endure. Life is LUVly, but rough spots help us to more appreciate the good, keep it all in perspective, understand and value that luxury called time. Positivity is wonderful. But so is a healthy dose of reality. I was with my mother Saturday morning when she received a call from one of her brothers. She is one of a total of 8, all with names which begin with J. She answered the phone and was soon saying no, no, no, sobbing into the phone. The first of the eight to go, her brother Jimmy, was also the youngest. He was found dead in his yard the night before, likely died the day before of a heart attack. He was 63, the same age as Robin Williams. As my mother cried later she told me she had become convinced she would be the first to go, having battled ovarian cancer, dealing with some issues from the chemotherapy and two operations, one major. I felt bad about sharing something which was not positive, then for deleting it, as if all of life is pleasant. We can not always make sense of such a loss, why someone felt such pain, felt he could no longer deal with it. Quite often those who live life with great highs are also those who find it most difficult to deal with lifes toughest lows. That was also the guy who entertained and delighted us for so many decades in so many wonderful performances, went off on so many ad lib tangents in interviews, creating characters and generating laughs on the spot. Life is not always positive. Which is a big reason I so very much appreciate it when it truly is. R.I.P. Robin Williams, Uncle Jimmy
