If news reports are to be believed the iconic symbol of my childhood days, the Ambassador Car is on its last throes. It was something waiting to happen. This ubiquitous vehicle plying on the road when we grew up will be remembered forever as the best car suited to Indian conditions where humans can be comfortably packed like sardines. Monopoly made the car survive, competition killed it. It yet vindicates that its non of governments business to be in the business of business which should be left alone to the private sector (Its time for Modi to take a closer look at another huge loss making entity called Air India). Hindustan Motors and Toyota in US went fully operational in 1967 and the similarities end there. Toyota still thrives globally and it was a matter of time for Ambassador to reach the end of its journey. RIP Ambassador.
