If not fully funded the following may be at stake... 250 full time jobs and the following potential cuts... The board’s preliminary list of potential cuts would reduce the school system’s adopted budget by about 250 full-time equivalent positions. The list of budget reductions under consideration include: - Cutting freshmen sports teams; - Eliminating summer school; - Cutting elementary and middle school foreign language programs; - Eliminating musical theater pilot that would be new this fall; - Eliminating 15 assistant athletic directors; - Removing $2.64 million from the budget to reduce elementary class sizes; - Eliminating the 19 full-time equivalent Family Life Education teachers; - Cutting middle school deans and adding one vice principal to each middle school; - Reducing the adopted employee compensation plan by $5.9 million; - Eliminating the 1-1 pilot program; - Stopping bus service to Thomas Jefferson High School and bus service for all after-school activities; - Reversing decision to extend full-day kindergarten for at-risk students; - Eliminating eight math facilitators; - Cutting two high school deans; - Reducing library assistants from full time to part time; - Reducing technology assistants from full time to part time; - Reversing the decision to hire 18 new bus drivers; - Eliminating the device rebate program for employees; - Reducing the College in Six program; - Delaying the purchase of 30 replacement buses, 25 large special education replacement buses and 11 small special education buses; - Increasing teaching load of high school department chairs from three to four classes; - Increasing teaching load of middle school subject area teaching specialists from five to six classes; - Eliminating the visitor management system (a school safety enhancement); - Eliminating administrative interns; - Cutting what would have been a new elementary language immersion pilot; - Trimming the K-12 Insight budget, used to conduct community surveys, by $100,000; - Cutting the following several newly added positions, including a social worker, GIS specialist, educational diagnostician, school psychologist, substance abuse prevention specialist, speech language pathologist, transition specialist, occupational therapist, web developer, special education specialist, Account specialist, environmental specialist, civil engineering coordinator, telecommunications analyst, resource nurse and public information secretary; - Trimming $30,000 of the $180,000 earmarked for the superintendent’s office’s legal fees.
