If not now when? If not us, who? Every year around this time - TopicsExpress

If not now when? If not us, who? Every year around this time people begin to realize that they are 3 weeks into the new year and far past starting the self-defense training that they said they were just waiting for the new year to start, schedules to change, their money to get right, etc. And every year Houston Martial Arts and Personal Self-Defense continues to encourage those individuals to continue to pursue and follow through on their self-defense and self-preservation goals. The question is why do I do it? None of them are particularly physically gifted. I don’t anticipate the training to be easy, or for them to get it any quicker than anyone else. The reason is two fold. One, I remember back in college when I dropped out of Kenpo for a couple of years to focus getting into my upper division track. My instructor never called me. He never inquired. With one little push, I might have gutted up and found the focus to both train and study. At least I like to think that, instead I faded into martial arts obscurity (not that I’m not still there) and felt like it didn’t really matter if I was there or not. I make a point to harass the hell out of my guys because it does matter to me, I post my training activities (to remind them of what we do) and continue to put myself out there hosting and drive events that allow the active and inactive to train with people much smarter and more dangerous than myself. The second reason is that know them, we have a connection. I know their families, I been to their houses, I met their wives, been to birthday parties, taught their kids and lived through their ups and downs. So I will not let them “go quietly into that good night”. The will go with all of their tools to bare, and any advantage I can provide for their families and for themselves as they protect both. But if not now, when? And if not us, who? iworkmartials
