‘If one sees an Elephant, one should say that he has seen an Elephant. The Elephant is beyond: I saw something vaguely’ (Bi a ba ri Erin, ka so pe a ri Erin. Ajanaku koja: mo ri nnkan firi). This adage is axiomatic in the personality of Honourable Abayomi Sheba. Perversion of facts about him is tantamount to an abuse of the intellect. Even while writing, the writer must be conscious of how to reflect and/or refract about him because writing is the medium of exploring what is and what ought to be. Any piece of writing is a replication of the author’s psychic disposition. If a writer must succeed therefore, his art should be positively thought-provoking, capable of revealing facts seemingly elusive or hidden from the citizenry. It is this artistic task−the obligation to tell the truth where fact is being distorted−that makes me unapologetically affirm Honourable Sheba’s candidature for the Ondo Southern Senatorial seat come 2015. Those who go about speaking maliciously and maligning him need to be cautioned, re-orientated and, if reversible, rehabilitated into reality because, in my opinion, their cognition is a reflection of poverty of idea. Many of them seem to have attained intellectual menopause, impeding a constructive performance assessment free from traumatic outburst and cerebral degradation. Comparative assessment reveals, among other things, that Abayomi Sheba is not a political amateur. He will bring his legislative ingenuity as a former House of Representative member to bear on legislation in the Upper Chamber. His position as the Chairman, House Committee on Poverty Alleviation (1999−2003) had equally set the template by which he would ease the masses’ plight. He is the leader we can trust. The finger that fits would be used to swab the nose this time. Abayomi is the only leader who makes empowerment the centre-piece of his policy. It is imperative therefore that all honest-hearted individuals, lovers of development, take their pens for swords whenever the personality of this industrious son of our dear state is being nastily taunted. ───── Iwabi Modahunsi
