If our recent cars have been far too modern, how about this? Bonhams is auctioning this 1912 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Tourer at the end of the month, and while the winter may be a bit chilly to give it regular exercising, anybody who does gets the thumbs up from us. This ones been to Australia and New Zealand and back to the UK. While down under it lost its original engine to a boat, and gained another one – from another boat. This hasnt really stopped it, as Bonhams explains: 2142 has been enthusiastically campaigned, covering almost 30,000 miles on four continents and winning many awards. Events attended include the R-REC Tour of Malaysia (2001); R-REC Borneo Experience Tour (2005); the Arabian Gulf Adventure (2009); and the 100 Cars for 100 Years gathering at the Rolls-Royce factory in 2011. Prestigious concours awards were gained at the 20 Ghost Club Annual Concours at the Chelsea Hospital in 2002 (Best Large HP Car); the Rolls-Royce Centenary World Tour in 2004 (1st in Class at the National Rally, Melbourne, Australia); R-REC UK National Meet in 2004 (1st in Class); R-REC Euro Rally, Madrid in 2004 (Best of Show); and the R-ROC National Meet in Chicago, Illinois in 2006 (1st in Class) following a tour of the USA. Up for grabs at the end of the month at Bonhams Bond Street sale, its got an estimate of £400,000 - 500,000. Seeing as its been to most places, where would you take it? Let us know below.
