If religion could truly be a private affair, postings about it from folk like me would be rare. But there is a real danger to unfettered and unchecked religious fervor - an avalanche of stupid that could, given the destructive capacity that we possess in the present day, lead to global tragedy. This is not an idle musing. It isnt uncommon for fright/white/right-wingers to behave as if they and only they know what is best for the world, based entirely on their own narrow, generally-bigoted views. That they would extend this arrogance to God shouldnt surprise anyone. For some, God isnt moving fast enough to bring about the Apocalypse, so they would help it along. And lets be clear, here: The fright/white/right-wing doesnt give a damn about the Jews. The Jews and Israel are simply tools (or even pawns) that these sorts of Christians believe can be manipulated to speed up the commencement of the End Times. Rachels report is as fascinating as it is sobering; but this isnt the first time weve seen reports of this sort of insanity as represented by the activities of the religious right. With luck, it wont be the last and the rest of the planet - including moderate Christians who serve, in effect, as enablers - can come to realize that this can not end well.
