If sentenced to the maximum prison term allowed under the plea agreement reached between the State of New Mexico and Willie Garcia Jr., last week, the accused murderer/arsonist could be out of prison before this years sophomores receive their diplomas, if not earlier. Due to the terms of the plea agreement, and because the crimes associated with the death of 27-year-old Mical Lee Culpepper not being deemed violent or serious, Mr. Garcia may serve as little as 50 percent of a 5.5-year sentence. Garcias approximate 2.5-year pre-sentence confinement will be deducted from that total sentence. Theres much more to this story. Pick up Tuesdays Herald to read all about it.
