If someone stood in the middle of Tel Aviv with a Palestinian flag, Or stood on the Shankill road with a Tricolour or on the Falls with a Union flag, or in the Bronx with an ISL black flag, or in Tehran with a Star of David..They might expect the reaction to be hostile. The violence which some are bound to indulge in the face of extreme provocation while not been condoned would be universally understood. The person putting themselves in that situation, would either be stupid in the extreme, or an Agent Provocateur out to draw the violent reaction any normal person would expect, in order to discredit their enemy. I think Joan Burton is a lot of things, but stupid isnt one of them, she knew going into the crucible that is an angry Tallaght was not going to end well, and she got what she went for a stick with which to beat the Protesters and the Socialist Party. The moral here is Ghandis approach peaceful protest and civil disobedience will win the day. Dont rise to the blatant provocation and give them their propaganda. They can not hide their actions the advent of smartphones and social media has taken the power to manipulate the truth away from them. Let the Gardai be the lumpen lackies of the ruling class. They will want public support when their pay and conditions are threatened then their day of reckoning will come when the people say you are on your own.
