If someone wants to take the statement of a scholar who made his Ijtihaad on the issue of testing people by Aimah/Ulema from Ahlu Sunnah his opinion being that such testing is not correct then that is ok, if you truly believe this to be correct and you are not merely using a scholars words to suit your desires. But then to ridicule not just criticise but to actually ridicule a brother who first followed many contemporary Ulema who hold this opinion and second followed the abundance of Athaar concerning how the Salaf in the past would deal with people in such a matter for example: Imaam Ahmad Ibn ’Abdullaah Ibn Yoonus (d.227H) – rahimahullaah – said, “Test the people of al-Mawsil with Mu’aafaa Ibn ’Imraan. So if they love him, then they are Ahlus-Sunnah and if they hate him, then they are people of innovation. Likewise, test the people of al-Koofah with Yahyaa.” [1] Imaam Nu’aym Ibn Hammaad (d.228H) – rahimahullaah – said, “When you see a person from al-’Iraaq speaking about Ahmad, then doubt his Religion. And if you see a person from al-Khurasaan speaking about Ishaaq Ibn Raahawayh (d.238H), then doubt his Religion. And if you see a person from al-Basrah speaking about Wahb Ibn Jareer, then doubt his Religion.” [2] And Ja’far Ibn Abee ’Uthmaan at-Tiyaalisee said: I heard Yahyaa Ibn Ma’een (d.233H) – rahimahullaah – saying, “When you see a man speaking about Hammaad Ibn Salamah (d.167H) and ’Ikrimah (d.13H) the freed slave of Ibn ’Abbaas (radiyallaahu ’anhumaa), then doubt his Islaam.” [3] Writing a sarcastic Facebook status and adding # GROWUP then there is a hidden agenda here. For it light upon the tongue of true a Sunni (not merely a claimant) to respond with love and praise for any scholar past or present even if he doesnt agree with the position of testing individuals by the Aimah/Ulema. But to write words of ridicule publicly as a response can only come from a tongue that expressing love and praise for Aimah/Ulema of the Sunnah is heavy upon.
