If the British left is advised to change style, inject some populism in its discourse and treat strategy as the great absent, I would say No, thank you. New left paradigms have been announced again and again in the last decade or so: Rifondazione Comunista, NPA, Die Linke, SYRIZA, now Podemos. Political initiatives that manage to use the momentum and project the power of the movements on the political scene are always exciting. The problem comes when the electoral/political advance has to keep pace with the crucial process, ie the class struggle -either when it goes up or when it goes down. And then the discourse of popular unity, become the people, and direct democracy can cut both ways. Using the enormously exciting electoral success of Podemos to say once again goodbye to Leninism doesnt help us neither understand the reality here and now nor be prepared for whats coming.
