If the Keystone Pipeline were to burst and spew oil into - TopicsExpress

If the Keystone Pipeline were to burst and spew oil into communities across the heartland, TransCanada should have to pay for its cleanup. Right? However, under current law, TransCanada doesn’t have to contribute to the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund to cover the cost of a potential spill, as other pipeline companies do. This is an absurb $24 million-a-year tax break. In recent years, we’ve seen major pipeline breaks in Michigan, Arkansas, Montana, and North Dakota. On the House Floor today, I offered an amendment to the #KeystoneXL Pipeline bill that says TransCanada should be held responsible if they put America’s environment and the health of American citizens at risk. The Republican-led House of Representatives failed to adopt this commonsense measure. #KXL
