If the Nigerian schoolgirls story is a legit news story (I dont mean that it did not happen, I mean that there are huge anomalies in the reporting and global powers reaction) there is a public roster of names of who were in the the school and the ones held and escaped would be available even if not released. There would not be all this fog of war in the reporting. Also in the region, the identities of those abducted are NOT SECRET. It is nonsensical to have blind quotes from escaped schoolgirls -- in the region public signboards with photographs and names and identifying details of ALL CHILDREN who are kidnapped/abducted are posted in public places so relatives can find each other. Be suspicious of blind quotes. Be suspicious of hysterical reporting in a context of fog of war. This is a highly systematized issue in the region with highly normative responses -- billboards of images of missing kids, aid workers assigned to each group, protocols.
