If the President negotiated a deal where the Russians left Ukraine and Georgia, and Putin went into voluntary exile in Mongolia, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham and probably Bob Menendez would all manage to find a microphone somewhere in order to criticize the man for being an appeaser. The Cuban Embargo is a relic of the Cold War which has served no useful purpose now for at least forty years. Everybody knows it, but nobody has ever had the cujones to do anything about it. Frankly, Im so tired of this whole Cuban mess that I could die a happy man if I never heard another word about Cuba for the remainder of my natural life. The Cuban people suffered terribly when the mob ran the island, and there is absolutely no disputing the fact that Castro, whatever his personal sins and political excesses, raised the standard of living for the average Cuban. Meanwhile, the fascists and mobsters who were driven into exile in America somehow became freedom fighters and altered the whole dynamic of our internal politics for half a century. Neither Fidel nor Raul is immortal, so it was inevitable that the day would come. Now that it has arrived, I just wish we didnt have to listen to idiots like Rubio and Cruz. But its the price of being the land of the free, I suppose. I just wish we could have swapped Lindsey Graham for Alan Gross. That would have been the only win-win proposition.
