If the current Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu was a - TopicsExpress

If the current Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu was a JOHESU member or look like a JOHESU member, the call for his removal would have been added as the 25th commandment of NMA. After all, the same NMA had in the past threatened fire and brimstone each time a non doctor was nominated as Minister of Health. Some doctors have started calling him names and calling for his head meanwhile the politician is struggling to save his job and career just like his colleagues are claiming to be defending the Hippocratic oath by their strike actions. Imagine if Prof Hippocrates was a Nigerian! He would have worded the oath to mean doctors are human while non doctors are inhuman.Today, the opposition is what we are witnessing. Too much of everything is bad so they say......25 demands?(adding the demand to remove and replace the Health Minister). The funny thing is that when the Prof leaves the office of the Minister of Health or retires, this same NMA will make him a life patron of NMA. If you like call me a hater of Nigerian doctors.....unfortunately I am not. I rather you call me a critic of some sort, a analyst of a different breed, a socialist, a human right activist, a hater of oppressors and a hater of reckless and incessant strikes over nothing that has characterized NMA as demi gods and pathological haters of JOHESU as most Nigerian doctors see the formation of JOHESU as the main cause of this lock jam in the health sector which is not true except we assume NMA would have had another slam dunk in record time in their demands if not for JOHESU. What Nigerian doctors have failed to realize is that NMA is still more influential than JOHESU but have somehow allowed JOHESU to play the underdog in this contest and because of that have lost public sympathy. It is more annoying when NMA has not realized this and has no immediate plans to repair this damage other than to continue to maintain their 25 point demands traditionally called The Original 24 commandments(excluding the yet to be announced removal and replacement of the health Minister). At the end of this or when the dust finally settles, NMA will never think of going on strike again at least for a very long time not because the govt will meet all of their demands or because the govt will turn a new leaf but because NMA would have learned a very bitter lesson from this impasse. Never threaten your employer too often! Not a good idea and mind your your business. Doctors were trained to have tiny bits of ideas in other health professions like pharmacy, Nursing, lab science, radiography.....but not to the point of claiming expertise and all rounder in those areas and not to the point of dictating how these self regulated professions should make career progress and NEVER to the point of going on indefinite strike for such reasons. -JKA
