If there is one thing we noticed in all the matches that Chelsea have played so far, it is that Jose Mourinho has gone in with exactly the same central midfield combo of Frank Lampard and Ramires in every single one of the first four matches. One would think that he would like to give some chances to the others on the roster like Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Marco van Ginkel. Seeing this, Arsenal Legend and currently director of football at Ajax, Marc Overmars came to the Blues with a deal to sign young Dutchman Van Ginkel on loan for a year, hoping that since he has had limited chances to play so far, it would go through. But it seems that Jose Mourinho feels he will need the 20 year old as he has rejected the bid outright. Overmars is reported by the Metro to have said “We would like to see van Ginkel playing at Ajax. For that type of player we are willing to pay top price. I’ve tried, but Chelsea will not let him go.” Despite being brought on only twice so far, that too in the later stages of the game, it remains to be seen how Mourinho plans to use and in turn help improve the youngster. Considering that Ramires and Lampard are bound to get fatigued at some point, it will be up to Mikel (who is slightly error prone), Essien (whose age isn’t on the right side of 30) and MvG (the most exciting prospect) to take it upon themselves to hold up the midfield.
