If there were ever a time when Columbia needed you to punch up, - TopicsExpress

If there were ever a time when Columbia needed you to punch up, it’s now. People of color, survivors, women, so many of Columbia’s students already get marginalized by mainstream humor. People don’t boycott Orgo Night because they hate Band and satire and think that dick jokes are a crime against humanity. They boycott Orgo Night because they feel it is part of a campus culture that already dismisses them at every opportunity. The personal attacks that Dunni Oduyemi and Tracey Wang have endured on Twitter since publically asking people to forgo Orgo (If you go to Orgo Night youre part of the problem, Dec. 11) only prove that they are justified in assuming this campus is not always a safe space for them. To paraphrase Jon Stewart, if we’re tired of hearing their grievances, imagine how tired they are of living them. Shout to my sorority sister Trip Eggert for getting it and writing about it! columbiaspectator/opinion/2014/12/13/punching
