If there were one thing I wish I could change about the world of force free dog training, I would forbid using acronyms in any document aimed at the general public, unless the full name of what the acronym stands for is presented first. Acronyms can make something seem as mysterious as alchemy, and theyre often really cheesy. I totally understand not wanting to write desensitization and counter conditioning over and over again, but I think the first time one writes it to anyone, or puts it in a document intended for laymen, it should be like this: Desensitization and Counter Conditioning (DS/CC). Thereafter, DS/CC should be good to go (although if youre writing about Classical Conditioning also, you need to explain those two CCs). In general, to hurry along the widespread acceptance of these principles of learning theory, maybe its worth it to write out the terms.
