If theres any future in live music in general, these types of arena shows NEED to return. The closing of the Meadowlands is just the beginning of what Ive been saying for years will unfortunately happen - within the next decade, arena concerts will be a thing of the past. People just dont care to see shows anymore...plus the Clear Channel - LiveNation takeover truly killed things with regards to inflated prices, as they put bands between a rock and a hard place. They refused to play the bands material on the radio stations in which they controlled (majority) if they did not sign with their company for tour booking. Yes, I know there will be a lot of people saying that the underground is alive and well and thats where Id rather see shows because arena shows are too big/too expensive/etc., which is all well and good. However, if interest in music in general has gone away from the major circuit, the minor circuit is next. The mentality of the younger generations with regards to downloading and feeling entitled to music has finally extended into the concert attendance to the point where venues cant survive, which has already happened with smaller clubs, too, and will keep continuing. Sporting events are next to go, or at the very least, teams sharing stadiums and being forced to move. While it’s true that most major league sporting events draw exceptionally well for each event, arenas and stadiums can’t survive on just sporting events alone to cover costs when only one team plays there, which is where concerts and other special events come into play. Disney ice events help, yes, as do Monster Truck rallies and Wrestling matches (another declining industry), but how many events can be hosted of the same type of alternative events before the market is flooded with the same type of show, if not the exact same show? That leads to less attendance per event, which in turn leads to less and less events, and then eventually none in some markets due to closing down arenas. Keep in mind, an arena needs two-thirds of its year booked with events to survive. Whatever you are into, start going out again and supporting it. Without the people’s support increasing, live entertainment as we know it and as we all grew up knowing and loving will be a distant memory much sooner than later. moyssi/image/F82102263221.jpg
