If theres anyone who embodies what Tennis2College is all about, its Ohenaba Boateng (pictured left). Hes just a high-excelling kid, says Justin Margolies, the middle school program coordinator at The Fort. He soaks up every opportunity that you give him. Ohenaba has been a regular fixture at The Fort since he started attending Tennis2College a few years ago. He participated in TopSpin, our after-school tennis & education program. Hed come by on weekday evenings for Boys Leadership Team, where he was a vocal and motivated participant. Hed hang around from early morning until evening on Saturdays—stringing racquets, working on homework, hitting on court. An eighth grader at Northeast Middle School this past schoolyear, Ohenaba was involved in student council and played #1 singles for Edison High School. In May, he actually ended up facing off against fellow T2C participant Demetrius Lewis, who was playing #1 singles for Roosevelt in a match that embodied sportsmanship, hard-work and competitive spirit (photo above). Ohenebas presence has been a gift to Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center—but its a gift we have to let go. This summer, Oheneba is moving to New York City to be closer to family and hopefully attend a prestigious science school. Well miss his leadership and dedication but look forward to seeing what he goes on to achieve!
