If theres one thing Ive learned in life, its that you can choose your family. Family is about more than genetics, its about relationships and love. The kind of love that sees your dirt and bruises and nastiness and loves you anyways. The kind of love that says let me help you work on that, let me walk with you through the dark nights. I will hold your hand even when it is filthy. I will love you in action even when you find it hard to love yourself. I am a lucky person to have friends like this who have become family. There is one of my sisters of the heart and spirit in particular whom everyone should be so lucky as to know and love: Jerilyn Hassell Pool. Jerilyn has walked beside me through some dark times. She has prayed with me. She has supported me and loved me, as she supports and loves everyone. She helped me find a way to stay active in the church and to reconcile my faith and my doubts to make my faith stronger without denying or ignoring my doubts. I know Im not the only person who feels that way. She constantly finds ways to reach out a helping hand to others. She doesnt just say that she loves you and Jesus loves you, she finds ways to show it through her deeds. I am proud to call her my friend and sister, as should be all who know her. Thank you for everything you do for so many of us, Jerilyn. You are a beautiful person with a beautiful heart and soul. I can just see our Heavenly Parents looking down on you , beaming with love, pride, and joy brighter than the sun and loudly proclaiming to all Thats OUR daughter. Thats OUR Jerilyn..
