If they believed in Truth and Accuracy, WHY would we call them Liberal? (Stolen from Mark Congleton): ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Something conservative people need to learn is that leftists dont care about truth or accuracy unless it can be used as a tool against those who hold different views. They even distort history and pretzel-twist reality to suit their purposes. Example: Chris Matthews dredges up a classic leftist distortion to undermine conservative credibility - the old Republicans considered black people to be 3/5 of a person gem. To those unfamiliar with the fight against slavery in America, this sounds pretty nasty. But if you know the truth it is not. During the fight to end slavery, Democrats fought fervently against Republicans to keep slavery alive in the United States. Southern states wanted to include slaves in population counts for the purpose of increasing their representation in Congress, but those same Democrats didnt consider slaves to have human rights or to be people, they were property. Slaves were considered by Democrats as equal to livestock, and thus to be considered as something which could be owned. Republicans, based solely on the reasoning of Democrats as to the value of slaves, refused to allow them to be counted that way because that would increase Democrat representation and power, making the abolishment of slavery much more difficult than it already was. The Republicans eventually came to an agreement with the Democrats to count each slave as 3/5 of a person for representation purposes, reasoning that since the Democrats considered them to be property rather than people they shouldnt count fully as people. This wasnt because the Republicans saw the slaves as 3/5 human, but because they knew the Democrats did and could be persuaded by their own callousness to accept their terms, thus minimizing the influence of pro-slavery Democrats and easing the way for the prohibition of slavery, making those the Democrats regarded as nothing more than cattle a free people. So, in very real terms, the 3/5 tactic was clever step in freeing the slaves from their oppression by Democrat owners, and should be considered an admirable strategy in the fight to end slavery. Now - when a leftist unicorn breeder like Chris Matthews uses the 3/5 term as a jab at conservatives you know hes full of, er... himself.
