If this does not scare you, you are in a mental coma! Is the Ebola Virus an airborne disease? The information represents a conflicting story. Let’s hope not! But, let’s assume for a moment that the virus is an airborne virus. Where are we today with that consideration? The following is a hypothetical scenario, but it could be and may be a very real situation. Someone who has contracted the Ebola Virus flies from Africa to the United States on a plane with 48 other passengers. Suddenly, there is a possibility that 49 people have contracted the virus. The individual who was confirmed to have the virus and was on the plane is taken to a hospital. Suddenly, 75 hospital employees and 125 patients have been exposed to the virus as the individual is treated in the hospital. Let’s say that 100 people also entered the hospital to visit family or friends that were in the hospital. Let’s just use this seemingly small exposure to tell just how things could go if the Ebola Virus is indeed an airborne virus. The 48 people on the original flight from Africa go home, so their families and friends who visit are also exposed, so you have 48 different pathogens moving through society spreading the virus and also their families and friends that they have come in contact with since the flight. The same applies to the hospital employees and the visitors of the hospital as the take the threat home to their families and friends. And now, it gets scary. You have the original 48 people from the flight, the 75 hospital employees, and the 100 visitors, plus the 125 patients in the hospital that will continue to make contact with society on a daily basis. How many of these people will walk through a mall, go to WalMart, to grocery stores, ride a bus, take a cab, fly across the nation or other areas of the world, go to a football or basketball game, go to church, go to a concert, etc.? Do you realize that if the Ebola Virus is indeed an airborne virus, it is almost inevitable that it is simply out of control at this very moment? This possibility would have been completely erased if the government had secured and even closed the borders to prevent anyone from other nations to step foot on America soil, and to not allow any flights to come to America from other nations to step foot on America soil. If Ebola is an airborne virus as some say it either is, or could mutate to become such, there is no protocol that could possibly contain the virus at this point. That promise of protocol came only after this scenario was born. Vic Damico 2014
