If we are lucky in this life, we will come to know that on certain occasions, we can experience God in ways more profoundly than in others. You come to a locale, a favorite place of quiet, and know peace will envelope you. You might have a favored gathering of family or friends, and in just a moment you sit back in your chair and truly absorb the rooms love and goodwill. These can all be long moments of divine presence, or just flashes you barely catch. I think we have all had these, at least if were listening. I have two Id like to share with you, one more recent than the other. Because Cristina thinks she is actually one of the Jamaicans from In Living Color, she works 32 jobs. So 3 afternoons a week we get to sit with Miss Iz. She and I have a moment after the new diaper is attached. I look straight into her beautiful, brown eyes and say, you know what comes next. She starts laughing and I shout, tickles. It only lasts 5 seconds! but her response is beyond golden. I know God is there at that moment. My other, is one of more long standing tradition and I know its going to grab me each year. Because in my more recent life Ive been surrounded by Mexicans who dont believe the day starts until noon, Im the first one to see the tree Christmas morning. There has never been the scene of presents chaos at our house. Im the only one up! We use those tiny white lights that dont generate any heat. We plug them in and just leave it. Anyway, when I come around the corner and see the glow of our tree standing sentry-like in the corner of the house, I am washed by a sense of warmth and love, that is difficult to describe. Usually there are new boxes I havent seen yet, as my bride has been wrapping long after my head hit the pillow. But in that moment of quiet, calm, I know God is there also. And I have to catch my breath... However you celebrate this season; whether it is the return of light, the birth of Jesus, or the miracle of the Macabees, may you have a joyous time surrounded by Gods love. May His whisper touch your cheek and bring you Peace.
