If we do not teach our students to think, to analyze, to consider the consequences of cause/effect, how can we expect them to deal with all the rapid changes that are occuring in this world. The corporations, neo-liberals and conservatives who back privatization of education do not want a thinking public; they want a consuming public that garnishes profits for them. They do not want discerning people who can intelligently make choices for what is good for themselves, for their children, and for all children. Do we really, I mean really, love our children so as to prepare them for the incredible challenges of the future, or will we settle for creating automatons who march in step to their demise?
