If we separated powers like to the American states, we would have a judicial (justice,) legislative (make laws,) and executive (Presidential) branch then we could go to the Judicial branch to have individual MAT councilors finances audited to find out if there are other sources of income that could prove to be an act of corruption against the corporation. Many elected MAT officials may be ignorant of any wrong doing concerning financial reimbursements but a major part of public service is about how the money is managed. There is nothing private about our corporation no matter what some MAT councilors say, nothing confidential because they officially manage all the businesses. This is the very point MAT members must keep our political officials accountable and responsible because when its all said and done it will be about the money. If we audited individual MAT councilors both past and present and found instances of extraordinary income connected to their service it may be evidence of corruption and could probably be held against them in a higher court. We could also go by way of the judicial branch about certain laws by the MAT council that concern our employment like having the whole MAT membership drug tested by the only business for tribal members to find work. The legislative branch would help prevent the executive council from throwing out existing laws of petition and grievances. Having our tribal government structured in three branches of power could resolve much of the problems we have presently with a MAT council that wields absolute power. ~fred
