If you are REALLY bored, and want to get an idea of the hardest 50 miles in cycling then tune into the abysmal video coverage of the Pittsburgh, PA Dirty Dozen Hill Climb Points race. Each of the thirteen hills has a VERY steep section. The least steep is 27%. The most steep, Canton Avenue, is rumored to be 36%. Most of the very steep sections are paved in granite cobblestones as asphalt will not stay in one place on these extreme grades. This even is promoted by Danny Chew, the storied and accomplished ultra long distance cyclist. (He raced RAAM eight times and won it twice.) dannychew/ This is a points race with points awarded in both male and female categories. For the men, a 10 place points (10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, & 1) system will be used at the top of each hill to determine overall podium positions. For the women, a 5 place points (5, 4, 3, 2, & 1) system will be used at the top of each hill to determine overall podium positions. The women will ride amongst the men, and will be picked out from a pink ribbon around their handlebars.
