If you are a Burns whose roots are in Cabell, Lincoln, Putnam, or Mason County, you will want to watch Finding Your Roots on PBS this coming Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. One of the participants is Ken Burns. His Y-DNA matches that of my brother and another Burns who currently lives in Hamlin which means that we share a common male ancestor. Anyone who is descended from the original Cabell Co. Burns family is related too. Apparently, Ken is also related to Robert Burns, the poet, but the researchers arent sure how; it is from a completely different branch of his family and is more nebulous than our Y-DNA match. I have no idea what will be presented on the program and neither does the programs researcher who worked with me on the DNA match but its sure to be interesting.
