If you are an African-American parent, you should take a listen. This could happen to your child. If you have a child who is referred for special ed, do not sign anything that you do not fully understand. Just because a psychiatrist makes a diagnosis does not mean that the diagnoses is accurate, culturally competent and free from bias. Working in this field, I have seen this first hand and have advocated for parents not to sign what they dont fully understand or agree with. If there is anyone who is offended by this post, please feel free to unfriend me immediately. The truth should not be oppressed just because it makes us uncomfortable
