If you are born on the island of Ireland you can stop reading now. - TopicsExpress

If you are born on the island of Ireland you can stop reading now. However, for those of you of an American persuasion who I have been lucky enough to befriend in the past 12 months, please, oh dear God please heed this warning. You can call it St. Patricks Day, St. Pats Day, Lá Fhéile Pádraig, or Paddys Day but never and I mean NEVER, EVER, ever call it St. Pattys Day! Dont question it, just trust an Irishman and go with it. If you meet anyone on your travels who insists any different rest assured they are a clueless gobshite and not really Irish. Now that you have heeded my annual PSA, enjoy ST PADDYS DAY and the rest of Irish-American History Month and have a pint for me! Slainte! PS: While we are on the subject of pints, the following drinks are also not really Irish: Black and Tans (this is Irish pub equivalent of going into a Jewish deli and ordering Gestapo Salami). Ordering one in Ireland could get you some strange looks (best case scenario) or in certain areas of the country like Cork city (which was burned to the ground by the Black and Tans) they make take you outside and beat the living crap out of you. Green Beer (think about it - it doesnt work on 90% of Irish beers - Guinness, Murphys, Beamish, Kilkenny, or Smithicks). (h/t Darragh Flood)
