If you are chasing pods of roaming crappies you can often times double the amount of fish you catch by tipping your lure with plastics, instead of using traditional live bait such as spikes, minnow heads, waxies, etc. I use a slightly trimmed down version of the 1.5 Maki Mino Head for extra attraction on my small crappie spoons. This allows me to quickly drop back down and catch a second or even third fish from the pod if the fish are actively roaming the weed flat, break or basin that you are fishing. No need to waste time messing around with live bait as that may allow the school enough time to pass you right by with only one fish in your hands.
