If you are into Arduino or PLC or Software Development for similar platforms, here is something you would find really interesting. openplcproject PLCs as those who are aware of would know, are fundamental to automation systems, but till now were made by major manufacturers like Siemens and TI and were closed source. Come Arduino, we have an open source platform that does something similar - scan inputs at certain no of cycles per second, and changes outputs according to provided logic. The OpenPLC project aims to create open source, industry standard PLCs, using Arduino. (Mega as base, and UNO as expansion cards), with full and proper support for ladder logic coding and SCADA integration. Currently the schematics are available, if anyone wants to build their own, and soon boards should be in production. Work is going on with the IDE as well so as to be able to write programs for OpenPLC using Ladder as easily as we use the Arduino IDE. Since almost everything is in a developing phase, if you are interested in these fields, you can contribute a lot to this project.
