If you are joining us in reading through the books of Joshua, - TopicsExpress

If you are joining us in reading through the books of Joshua, Judges, and Ruth, today’s reading is Joshua 10:29-43 and the devotion is taken from verses 40-43. So Joshua subdued the whole region, including the hill country, the Negev, the western foothills and the mountain slopes, together with all their kings. He left no survivors. He totally destroyed all who breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded. Joshua subdued them from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza and from the whole region of Goshen to Gibeon. All these kings and their lands Joshua conquered in one campaign, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel. Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal. This last section of chapter 10 summarizes the rest of the southern campaign which Joshua and the Israelites participated in. At the end of chapter 10 we see all of southern Israel in the hands of the Israelites and with the exception of the Gibeonites deception all of the tribes which you previously lived in the land had been destroyed. We have to have a plan to accomplish what God wants us to do. We cannot start our walk with him and be successful unless we carefully plan out the entire situation. Many times we approach our walk with Christ in a very haphazard manner. We have no real plan and so we can’t ever tell whether we are being successful in our walk or not. It may be years before we sit down and evaluate how our walk is progressing and by that time we have lost many opportunities to grow in him. Joshua has returned to Gilgal, the place where he really began this campaign. We need to return to our base so to speak and evaluate how our lives are being spent in our walk with Christ. Jesus regularly went someplace quiet to pray to God and commune with him. There are times when we have to do the same. Every few years we need to take some time to evaluate where we have been, the victories which were won, and the failures with which we have struggled. We need to take a long look at what we do and why we do it and speak with others to get their input. As we begin this New Year mark a place on your calendar where you can spend some time, it may only be a few hours, to evaluate your walk with Christ and communion with God so that your vision might be refreshed.
