If you are not busy on Friday and are interested in a law profession, my mom is trying a case at the Santa Ana courthouse and the courtroom is open. This means that as long as you dress appropriately and come on time, you can see a trial in action. The case description is: This case is brought by Plaintiff Lauren McFadden against Defendant William Jordan Associates, Inc. Plaintiff was employed by Defendant beginning in August 2011 and her employment was terminated in January 2012. Plaintiff claims that she was discriminated against due to her pregnancy and marital status, retaliated against for complaining of discrimination, and terminated due to her pregnancy. Plaintiff claims that these actions by Defendant caused her emotional distress. In addition, Plaintiff claims that during her employment for Defendant, she was not paid for overtime worked and was not paid her final wages until several days after her last date of work. Defendant denies discriminating against Plaintiff based upon her pregnancy or retaliating against Plaintiff due to any complaints of discrimination. While acknowledging that Plaintiff was terminated, Defendant denies that such termination was related to Plaintiff’s pregnancy. Defendant also denies that Plaintiff worked any overtime for which payment would be due. The Plaintiff is represented by Linda Guthmann Krieger and Lawrence R. Cagney of the law firm of Krieger & Krieger. The Defendant is represented by Steven A. Fink of the Law Offices of Steven A. Fink. When: Friday, 3/21/14 (this is not the first day of trial! do not come with expectations, as my mom doesnt even know whats supposed to happen on this date) Time: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Half hour lunch break at 12, I believe. Dress code: Business casual. No jeans or t-shirts, but dont come in a suit. **Note: apparently, this judge likes to comment about who is in the courthouse and their behavior, so please do not talk or bounce around too much. It might reflect badly on my mom (if the judge/ jury figures out were connected to her).
