If you are somebody who likes to try out different music, or maybe have heard of Uncle Tupelo, but never listened to this album all the way through or at all. I tend to think of No Depression as a vital portrait of Americana music, It is labeled with being a founding part of the Alt Country scene, but didnt really fit into that label fully, with its punk rock fusion of traditional folk, country, and Bluegrass. This album gave a name to a new scene, No Depression and also a Magazine of the same name covering the genre. Its blue collar midwestern, with grand schemes crammed into small bar stools and factory jobs. Fast crunchy guitar riffs, blended with acoustic folky strumming and finger picking. Banjos! Give it a listen on youtube or wherever and keep it in mind if you are looking for something new to listen to next year. Always pushing for recognition of these little known at the time, older bands has resulted in me getting to see some very unlikely reunions. Would love to get one show out of Uncle Tupelo. These remasters often mean better money for the original artists now, than it did when it came out, so I often buy remasters to support a band I may have only been able to get a used copy of an out of print album. Love that stations like the Current still play and recognize these songs.
