If you are thinking about fostering but you are not sure then read this. Meet Johnny, the big black beautiful boy. He was scheduled to be euthanized in June 2014. A sweet lady with a big heart couldnt let that happen. Maggie saved Johnny and 2 other dogs from LCAS. (Izzy is still in boarding and needs help financially to get out and into a foster home.) I decided to do a short term foster with Johnny so he could go to Alpha Dog Rescue in Maine. One of the volunteers who helps us all the way from California, Stephanie found this rescue. Johnny had been in boarding from June to Oct. We tested him with our kids and dogs and he did great. We didnt just throw him into the pack. Everyone met him individually at first. Johnny is so well mannered (except when you let him in the back yard. Other dogs better watch out! He tramples over them to get out there). He fit right into the pack perfectly and even behaved when my 3 year old tested the boundaries. Still working on his training. :) Today he left for his new foster home. Today I am very sad to say goodbye to Johnny. We miss him so much. And yes it hurts. And yes, for you non pet lovers out there, he is just a dog. But for us, he was part of the family. And he knew it. Why didnt we keep him? I keep asking myself that and reminding myself that we dont live in a huge house and that we want to keep helping dogs get to their forever home. So today we pick up our next temp. foster that was scheduled to be euthanized yesterday but some generous person or people sponsored this one and ACT pulled for us. We are still looking for a lab rescue or big dog rescue. So please share. (see the last picture of our next foster) Is fostering hard? Yes (well the letting go part is). Is it worth it? To me yes.
