If you are thinking of coming to Lorella Springs Wilderness Park, please read the attached Trip Advisor review. Lorella lives up to EVERY expectation!” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago We left Lorella Springs yesterday after 17 days of extreme fun and adventure, and for people to say that the staff are unhelpful and liars is extremely unjustified in our opinion. Rhett and all of the staff there were easy to talk to, helpful to a fault, and Lorella has such natural beauty that longer stays and return stays are a must for anyone interested in a small slice of this glorious country. To say there are no fish to be caught is totally untrue as we caught and released in excess of 200 fish between 6 of us over a 5 day stay at Secret Fishing Spot, with 1 of these 6 being a classic non fisho. These included over 50 Barra, 120 Mangrove Jack, and 12 other species including Goldspot Cod, Blackspot Cod, Barracouta, Queensland Groper, Flathead, Black Bream, Sooty Grunter, Archer Fish, Long Toms, Queenfish etc. We kept around 7 fish for our daily needs and the rest were returned to the untouched waters. The difference? We fished the gutters by foot after taking our quad bikes down the 4wd track, that is everything you would expect a track to be, to reach some of the most isolated fishing areas in Australia. Sure, 5 of us are in the 20% of anglers who catch 80% of the fish, but a little planning and foresight will see you catch good fish even in July/August as we did. A hint or two...unless you have some friends with 4wds and some serious recovery gear, dont attempt to drive on the salt pans to get to the gutters...you WILL break through. A hand held GPS is also a very good idea as one salt pan looks the same as the next, and we also carry an EPIRB for that emergency situation. Make sure you also carry enough water down to these sort of spots. The mate and I were shouted a helifishing trip with Nick by our wives and this was one of my bucket list items I can now tick off...thanks Nick for one hell of an afternoon!!! This gave us the foresight mentioned above to plan the road trip to the coast. All of the close trips in and around the station were well worth the effort and we really got tired of yabbies in the end, although it did take us a couple of days to crack the yabbie code! We have planned out the bar we reckon Rhett should install at the Cattleyard Hotsprings, and will be spending a few days at Nudie Hot Springs next time were there. If you are hunting a spot in Australia that is largely untouched and has its own amazing beauty, this is the place for you, and yes, the roads are NOT bitumen, but most of us know that we are going 4wding when we plan this trip, and if we could only get the government to do the right thing and back our tourism industry by helping to maintain roads in the outback, then people would have no need to whinge at people like Rhett and his staff about the state of the roads. The Nathan river road is no better in my opinion than the track into Lorella, and yes, we broke 2 trailers getting there and back, and I mean seriously broke the trailers, but in each case it was mostly our fault even with the planning we did to stave off these mishaps. In saying this, Rhett could not have been more helpful and allowed us full use of the well stocked workshop to fix our problems at no extra cost. As far as the prices of goods on site, just make sure you take in everything you need, and you wont have any problems with paying the higher cost of goods at the station. It is a hell of a long way for Rhett to get ANYTHING in, and someone has to cover this extra cost. $20 per person per night?? phttt! worth every cent (and so is Dicks bread!) Thanks guys and girls...we shall return! Geoff & Elle Hodge, Josh Hodge & Ashleigh Johnson, and Aaron & Robyn Irwin Stayed August 2014, travelled with friends
