If you bought this morning one of the 3 million copies of Charlie - TopicsExpress

If you bought this morning one of the 3 million copies of Charlie Hebdo’s first edition since last week’s massacre at its Paris headquarters, you either had rushed to a news stand extremely early -- or were intuitive enough to make a reservation. After selling out throughout France in minutes, the satirical magazine has announced it will circulate another 2 million copies to meet demand. But it’s likely you’ll still have to get up early to buy a copy in the coming days. The clerk at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg told us she sold out within five minutes of opening. At Saint-Louis’ lone bookstore, Encrage, a queue of 10 quickly swelled to more than 70 by the time the gate went up at 9h. Yet most of the crowd was turned away after the manager announced that the story had only received 30 copies, with priority going to the 190 customers who had reserved since last week. “Normally, we only get five copies a week, because no one buys it,” he said. Although Encrage expects to get at least 100 more magazines in the coming days, the store is not taking additional reservations. The publication has announced that profits of this edition will go to the victims families.
