If you can, I would like to encourage you all to watch 60m minutes - TopicsExpress

If you can, I would like to encourage you all to watch 60m minutes tonight to see the work of the International Medical Corps in the critical areas of Liberia and Sierra Leone. I will share part of an informational e-mail from my friend Mary Daly, who supports the efforts of the Corps. Of course, International Medical Corps needs contributions - anything helps - but I wanted to update you about the groups emergency response. I do not want to be obnoxious - I know some of you say obnoxious is a Mary character flaw. If you are moved to do so, give what you can. Every dollar for the Ebola Response is appreciated. International Medial Corps courageous doctors and health workers are the very few medics on the group treating those suffering from Ebola in Liberia and Sierra Leone. It is believed that Liberia is the epicenter of the disease. International Medical Corps was ready to respond immediately because they have been working West Africa since 1999. In addition to treatment and direct care, IMC is training local health workers so they can be their own first responders. 13, 500 cases have been identified and 5000 have died. Our heroic doctors warn that there are many misconceptions around Ebola. Many see it as an epidemic of fear. Yes it is a global issue that a swift and immediate intervention. However they believe if there are more resources for treatment, the epidemic can be stopped perhaps as early as next year. Think of Ebola as a raging fire. When others are running away from the flames. International Medical Corps is running into the epicenter to provide treatment that we believe will result in prevention. These health workers are my heroes. I heard someone say on TV that when they all return we should give them a ticker tape parade. The costs are staggering. Each essential Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) costs a million dollars a month to operate. The protective medical bubble suits costs about $90 but each team at an emergency center goes through a 100 suits a day. If you are so moved, make a contribution by going to internationalmedicalcorps.org and give whatever you can through the Donate Now button. I is a donate now button If you wish, you can send a check to International Medical Corps 12400 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 1500, Los Angeles California 90025. Every dollar is earmarked for the Emergency Ebola Response.
