If you can help getting someone to a shelter, below is information on where to go or what to do. If you are unable to assist and see someone stuck outside, I would call 911. It is too dangerous outside for the next couple of nights, especially tonight at -10 degrees! Here is shelter information according to Denver Road Home: COLD WEATHER SHELTERING OPTIONS (subject to change according to isolated weather patterns): FAMILIES: • Families may obtain motel vouchers at Samaritan House (Park Ave at Lawrence) from 5:00p until 8:30p throughout the week. o Families originating from outside of Denver County will be issued a maximum single (1) night of motel assistance and then referred to their county of origin for shelter services. o Heads of household must present identification to obtain a voucher at contract motels.* o Those seeking a voucher must not be on the “do not revoucher” registry, which reflects serious past abuses of the voucher program. o After 9:00p, families may obtain a voucher at the Denver Sherriff at the Downtown Detention Center (490 W. Colfax). Families may arrive after 9:00p Monday-Friday. On Saturdays and Sundays Families may arrive after 8:00p but must be accompanied by outreach or Denver Police. o Families may also arrive at Denver Human Services (1200 Federal Blvd.) to obtain a voucher between the hours of 8:30a and 3:00p. All above restrictions apply. SINGLE WOMEN: • Unaccompanied women over age 18 may call Delores Project (303.534.5411) for shelter availability on Mondays and Thursdays starting at 11:30a. Women may also phone nightly to see if there are no show vacant beds available at 5:30p, and again after 8:15p. • Women may arrive at Salvation Army Harbor Light (2136 Champa) at 6:00p for a meal and transport to emergency shelter. • Emergency shelter is available through St. Francis Center’s partnership with Capitol Hill United Ministries Women’s Homeless Initiative. o Women can sign up for Women’s Homeless Initiative lottery selection at St. Francis Center (2323 Curtis). St. Francis Center will provide transportation for women to partner churches promptly at 6:00p. • Catholic Charities will provide shelter for up to 100 women nightly at their Holy Rosary location.* o Women over 18 may arrive at Samaritan House (Park Ave. at Lawrence) between 5:00p and 6:00p. o Women utilizing Holy Rosary will be given preference for any shelter openings in the Samaritan House program. • If no shelter options are available and temperatures are below 40 degrees, women may arrive at Samaritan House (Park Ave. at Lawrence) from 5:00p until 8:30p to obtain a motel voucher. o Women who do not reside in Denver County will be afforded only one (1) night voucher and be referred to appropriate resources in their county of origin. o Women in Denver County are allotted 12 nights of motel vouchering in a year. o Women must not be on the “do not revoucher” registry, which reflects serious past abuses of the voucher program. o Women must present identification to obtain a voucher at contract motels* *SINGLE WOMEN AND FAMILIES WITHOUT IDENTIFICATION • Single women and families who do not possess identification may still obtain a voucher to the VOA Family Motel if there is a vacancy. Other restrictions still apply (i.e. “do not revoucher” list, exceeding the allotment of annual vouchers, arriving from out of Denver County, etc.). o In extreme weather every effort will be made to procure shelter to individuals arriving regardless of possessing identification. UNACCOMPANIED YOUTH: • Unaccompanied individuals between the ages 15 and 20 may obtain shelter at Urban Peak (1630 S. Acoma St.). Youth should phone the shelter prior to arrival at 303.974.2908 to assure there is a vacancy. If the shelter is full youth will be referred to other sheltering options. SINGLE MEN: • Salvation Army Crossroads (1901 29th St.) completes lotteries for emergency shelter placement on Sunday and Wednesday at 4:30p. Those who prevail in the lottery will secure a bed until the next lottery is held. Working homeless individuals can obtain a bed for a modest reservation fee. • Denver Rescue Mission’s Lawrence St. shelter (Park Ave. at Lawrence St) will provide emergency shelter each night and will also stage men seeking shelter at the emergency overflow facility. o The evening lottery signup for both the Lawrence Street Shelter and the Emergency Shelter closes at 5:30pm nightly. Individuals designated for the Emergency Shelter will be transported from the Lawrence Street Shelter between 7:30-9:00pm, after they have eaten dinner. Residents will then be transported back to the Lawrence Street Shelter the following morning in time for breakfast. Walk-ups will be accepted at the Lawrence Street Shelter only after the lottery signup closes, as space is available, up until 10pm nightly. Street Outreach and Police may drop individuals off at the Lawrence Street Shelter after 10pm. *currently Holy Rosary is unavailable for the short term due to scheduled construction improvements. It is projected to be operating the week of December 29. In the meantime, up to 60 women will be sheltered at Samaritan House location, with additional women being accommodated at Salvation Army.
