If you cannot afford a crackhead, one will be appointed to you... Imagine if a private business said this. Hate your sandwich? The next time youre hungry, call a crackhead. Hate your room? Next time you need to stay somewhere, call a crackhead. Hate your cable? Next time you... Well that third one isnt too far from reality, but I think it supports the point Im about to make. The reason police officers (off-duty) can buy and wear a t-shirt thats so arrogant is because they hold a monopoly. When there is no competitor to take your business, accountability is lost. And of course, the lack of accountability is why, I think, so many people dislike cops. Similarly, cable companies often control local monopolies (and this has nothing to do with the big merger). In many areas the only alternative for the areas lone cable company is satellite, which would seem to be a much more expensive and inefficient industry. In a way, DirecTV and Dish Network actually depend on cable monopolies to raise prices close to their own. Anyway, back to cops. I personally have never called the police for help. I once had my debit card stolen, so I called my bank. They immediately reimbursed the illegitimate charges and performed their own investigation. Do cops do that? Probably not. Why would they? They certainly dont have any economic incentive to do so. Theyre not going to lose any customers no matter how bad their service is. Theres a noticeable difference between police and cable, though. If I criticize Time Warner or Comcast and their horrible customer service, everyone chimes in and agrees. When it comes to police and their horrible customer service its not so unanimous. Some people will agree, but so many others might get offended, not because Im wrong, but because criticism of police is blasphemous. And that has a lot to do with why someone would pay money for a shirt like this.
